Why So Many Retired Couples Choose Class A Motorhomes

by | Aug 27, 2020 | RV Buyer's Guide

It’s no secret that RVing is a popular lifestyle choice for retirees. You’re no longer tied down to a job or location for your income, so it makes sense to use that freedom to hit the open road. Once you’ve decided to take the plunge into retired RVing, the next choice you’ll have to make is what kind of RV you’ll want to take on your travels. There are many different types of rigs, from towable RVs to motorhomes, and deciding which one is best for you can be overwhelming. While the perfect fit RV can vary for everyone, Class A motorhomes are a popular choice for RVers hitting the road after retirement. Here are a few reasons why.

Feels closest to a sticks and bricks home

You may have experience vacationing in an RV, but if you’re like most people, you still had a sticks and bricks home to come back to at the end of the trip. If you’re choosing an RV for retirement, you’re likely going to transition to living in your rig for part of the year as a snowbird, or even to full-time RV life. That can be a big adjustment if you’ve spent all of your life up to this point living in a traditional home! The great thing about a Class A RV is that it makes that transition easier than any other rig.

They’re the largest and therefore most spacious RVs out there, so you won’t feel like you’re sacrificing too much when you downsize to an RV. The layout of Class A floor plans feel closest to a small house, with kitchens and extra features that can sometimes even rival those of sticks and bricks homes. You’ll feel much more comfortable as you make the switch, which will allow you to enjoy all the perks of RV life even sooner.

Room for the grandkids

Another reason you’ll love all that space? It means room for the grandkids to stay over! With most any Class A floor plan, you’ll find a hide-a-bed sofa at minimum to make room for extra guests, and it won’t feel cramped at all. Have them over for a sleepover while you’re parked in the driveway at their parents house, or take them on a weekend trip somewhere kid-friendly. Either way, you’ll make memories with your grandkids that they will cherish for a lifetime.

Ample storage

Full-time RVing means downsizing, but chances are you have some material things you just can’t part with after all these years. The great thing about Class A rigs is that you’ll have more storage than any other RV type, so you can bring along more of what’s important to you. RVs don’t waste an inch of space, and since a Class A rig gives you the most of it, you’ll find more storage cabinets, pass through storage, wardrobes and more in this type of motorhome. Did we mention residential size refrigerators? It’s up to you how you want to use the extra space, but it’s nice to know you have less to stress about when it comes to finding room for all the things you want to pack into your rig.

Travel longer

Class A rigs have the largest holding tanks of all RV types, which means you can travel longer without having to hook up to water or sewage. It cuts down on a huge hassle of RV travel, and makes camping somewhere that has hookups less of a priority because your rig can be pretty self-sufficient for longer. Translation: you can camp in your kid’s driveway without having to leave to find a dump station every 2 days!

Ease of maneuvering

While we don’t buy the phrase, “you can’t teach an old dog new tricks,” it does help when those new tricks are easier than others! That’s what you’ll find when it comes to driving a Class A motorhome. The large size of coach motorhomes can seem overwhelming to start with, but you don’t have to learn the same new techniques in regards to turn radius and pivot points as you would with a towable. You also won’t have to worry about hitching and unhitching your rig! Less time figuring out technical details means more time enjoying retired life.

Why So Many Retired Couples Choose Class A Motorhomes

There are plenty of things to consider when you’re selecting which type of RV is right for you, but the perks of retiring to a Class A motorhome can’t be overlooked. If having a space that feels like your old home, extra room for guests and a rig that’s easy to drive are things that are important to you, get started looking for your perfect retirement RV by searching Class A motorhomes on RVUSA.com.
