Easy RV Recipes to Make Before You Hit the Road

Out at the campsite or RV resort, time is limited! You have a few days to pack in all the activities you plan to do at your destination. There simply isn’t enough time to cook the large, hearty meals that the family is hungry for after a busy day. Our solution to this delectable dilemma is to plan make-ahead meals! These RV camping meal prep recipes consist of delicious dishes that can be prepared before you’ve hitched up the RV. Then, they can be quickly heated up at the campground and you’re ready to dig in!

RV Camping Meal Prep: Breakfast

Freezer-Friendly Breakfast Burritos

Breakfast burritos are a deliciously savory way to start off an active day! Assemble scrambled eggs with your choice of meat, cheese and veggie toppings in a tortilla and you’re ready to go. Wrap your burritos in tin foil and pack them in an air tight bag, then place them in your fridge or freezer to be heated up later. You can warm them in the RV oven, a toaster oven, or the air fryer for the best results.

Strawberry Overnight Oats

Overnight oats are one of the most popular RV camping meal prep recipes among RVers, especially when it comes to breakfast. These strawberry overnight oats are sure to be a hit, but you can easily find overnight oat recipes flavored with blueberries, bananas, peanut butter, chocolate and more. The ingredients are simple and prep takes just a few minutes. Store your overnight oats in the fridge and wake up to a healthy breakfast that’s ready to eat at home or on the go.

RV Camping Meal Prep: Dinner

Shepherd’s Pie

Mix minced lamb, beef stock, onion, celery and more tasty ingredients for this classic shepherd’s pie. Then, add potatoes and butter for a crispy topping. This savory meal can be created in a casserole dish and easily frozen. It reheats well in the RV oven and is the perfect comfort food on a cool night at the campground.

Slow Cooker Barbecue Chicken

What’s better than a slow cooker recipe? A two-ingredient slow cooker recipe! While it’s easy to spice this dish up with your favorite seasonings, it can be completed with just chicken and barbecue sauce. This makes it easily one of the quickest prep times when it comes to RV camping meal prep recipes. The barbecue chicken can either be made beforehand or tossed in the slow cooker in your RV before you head out for the day. That way, you can come home to a warm, savory dish ready to be tossed onto a bun and tucked into.

Foil Pack Grilled Shrimp Tacos

Foil pack recipes are extremely popular options for RV camping meal prep. Simply combine your ingredients in a bit of tin foil and let them cook over a grill or on the campfire. This shrimp foil pack meal can be prepared and wrapped in tinfoil before you leave the house, and cooked over the campfire when you’re ready to eat. Even the yogurt or sour cream-based sauce can be prepared in advance and drizzled over the shrimp after it’s been cooked.

Healthy Roasted Sweet Potato Chili

Chili is the perfect campground meal during fall camping trips when the weather cools, especially once the sun sets at dinnertime. We chose this chili recipe because of the sweet potato spin it takes on regular chili night. Once it’s cooked in the kitchen at home, this meal can easily be stored in the fridge or freezer. Then, reheat your chili over the campfire or on the induction cooktop and you’re ready to eat!

RV Camping Meal Prep Bonus: Dessert!

S’mores Cookie Cups

Of course, s’mores are a classic camp dessert. These s’more cookie cups take the all-American sweet treat up a notch. Layer chocolate and marshmallow fluff between two layers of graham cracker dough in a muffin tin and pop them in the oven. Once in your RV, we recommend warming them up so you have an extra gooey chocolate and marshmallow center!

Apple Crisp Foil Packets

Foil pack recipes work for dessert too! These juicy, sweet apple crisps can be made in advance, wrapped in foil, and packaged up until you’re ready to heat them over the campfire. They consist of apples, sugar, cinnamon, and oats – what’s not to love? Although not part of the make-ahead recipe, we’d definitely recommend topping off the warm apple crisp with whipped cream or ice cream before you chow down.

These make-ahead camping recipes are great for on-the-go families! They make campsite cooking easy and quick, which is ideal after a long day of outdoor activities.
